# Vinyl Barcode Scanner App: The Mobile Scanner

The Mobile Scanner turns any phone into the intake and sales terminal of your shop. Three scan methods cover everything that ends up in a crate: barcodes on modern reissues, catalogue numbers on older sleeves, and cover recognition for records with neither.

## Three ways to identify a record

Barcodes only exist on a fraction of second-hand vinyl, which is why a single scan method is never enough in practice.

-   Barcode — fastest for reissues and sealed stock
-   Catalogue number — reads the printed code on sleeve, spine or label
-   Cover scan — purely visual matching, no text needed

## Buying mode and selling mode

In buying mode a scan opens intake: condition, purchase price and asking price, or a bulk basket if you are taking in a whole collection. In selling mode the same scan checks your stock first, confirms the match, and drops the item into the sales basket.

Sold items only leave stock once the sale is actually completed, so an interrupted transaction never corrupts your inventory.

## Working without a connection

Offline, the scanner matches against the inventory snapshot on the device using the same three scan methods. Cover photos and any typed artist or title are stored locally and queued, and the Action Centre lists them as tasks until they are resolved online.

## Paired with the desktop counter

At the counter, The Floor can hand a scan job to a phone over a live session link — the desktop stays on the sales screen while the phone does the scanning.

## Recognition you can trust

Cover recognition matches images, and every result is confirmed against verified catalogue data and your own stock before it becomes a price. When a match is uncertain, the scanner asks for confirmation or lets you search manually instead of guessing.
